Chap 20f: Maintain/Dialing Rules

The Dialing Rules command brings up the Dialing Rules window, which displays a list of all of the dialing rules settings currently defined in your system. From this window you can use the buttons to the right of the dialing rules display to Add or Delete Dialing Rules settings.

To modify Dialing Rules, double-click on the setting you would like to modify. This will bring up the Individual Dialing Rule window, which allows you modify specific Dialing Rule parameters.

You can enable or disable a Dialing Rules setting with the Do Not Use Dialing Rule check box. On the left-hand side of the window are two columns, Allow Only and Block Only. You may choose to use either the Allow Only column or the Block Only column, but you can't use both columns simultaneously. Enter the area codes and/or prefixes you wish to allow or block in the appropriate column.

Use File - Another option exists to only accept or reject phone numbers (or portions of phone numbers, such as the prefix) from a specific text file. If you use this option, use the Browse button to locate the file which contains the phone numbers you wish to allow to be dialed.

Add "1" for Long Distance - You can decide whether or not your system will add a "1" when dialing a long distance area code. If you allow this you will incur additional phone charges for any long distance calls your system makes.

Strip Local Area Code - Check this option to force the system to remove the local area code from phone numbers entered by callers. In the field to the right enter the local area code that is to be removed. This feature is useful if you expect to be sending faxes outside your local area code. Simply request all callers to enter their area code and phone number, and the system will know to remove your local area code before dialing local numbers.

Dialing Rule Name - You may optionally give each Dialing Rule setting a name which will help you identify it anywhere the Dialing Rules option appears.
