Chapter 9: The Client Box

What does the term "Client" mean?

In this software, a Client is a system supervisor, or someone who is responsible for multiple boxes, including Access Boxes, Mail Boxes, etc. If you will be the only supervisor on your system there will only be one Client (you), and you are Client 0 by default. Your system has the capability of having more than one Client at a time. You could sell multiple Mail Boxes to a Client, who would in turn have customers who subscribe to his service within your system. In this situation you would bill only the Client for his customer's activities. The Client would assume the financial responsibility of collecting from customers, and would profit from each subcontracted Mail Box.

The function of the Client Box

The Client Box is used to maintain information about individual Clients, their sub-members, and details about their service.

Box Number

In a Client Box, the Box Number is the Client Number. The system creates the first Client box, which is numbered Client 0. If you will be the only Client on your system you will not need to add another Client Box. If you have added additional Client Boxes you can use the box locator controls in the Icon menu bar to move through the boxes until you find the Client Box you wish to modify.

Box Name

In this field enter the name of the Client, or system supervisor. If you have installed the sample software you will want to replace the name in the sample Client Box with your own name in the Box Name field.

Password

The Password field that appears in the Client Box is the password you will use as the system supervisor to gain remote access to any and all boxes on the system belonging to your Client number. It is important to note that you must enter your Client password to remotely access any box types other than Mail Boxes. A Client password can also be used to access any Mail Box, regardless of the password entered in the individual Mail Box.

Important: Be sure to make your Client password long and change it frequently to prevent unauthorized access to your system.

Attached Mail Box

The Attached Mail Box field defines where mail for the current Client will be sent. There is an option in the Mail Box Privileges settings (within the Privileges command in the MAINTAIN menu) that allows a Mail Box holder to send a message to the system owner. If you have selected this option for Mail Boxes on your system, messages from Mail Box holders will be sent to the Attached Mail Box of your Client Box.

To locate the Mail Box you wish to attach to your Client Box you may enter the Mail Box Finder screen by double-clicking on the Attached Mail Box field.

Privilege

Client Boxes and Mail Boxes can have assigned privileges. The privilege assigned to the Client Box also applies to all boxes owned by the Client. Access Boxes, Conference Boxes, Fax Boxes, Group Mail Boxes, and OutBound Boxes do not have their own privilege, so only the Client privilege applies to these box types. Mail Boxes, however, can have their own privilege. If you enter the Client owner password to remotely access a Mail Box from a Supervisor Phantom or User Access Phantom, the Client privilege will go into effect.

Notes

In this area you can enter information about each Client.
